About Crossword Helper

When you have some letters of a crossword answer and empty squares between them, this fills the gaps. Enter what you know as a pattern — C_T, _A_E_ — and get every word of that exact length that fits.

You can also rule letters out. If a crossing answer has already eliminated a letter, exclude it and the results narrow accordingly.

How to use it

  1. 1

    Enter the pattern

Type the letters you know and mark unknown squares with _, ?, a dot or a space. The pattern length is the answer length, so include every square.

  2. 2

Exclude letters you have ruled out

Any letter listed here is barred from the unknown squares. Crossing answers are the usual source.

Frequently asked questions

How do I search a crossword pattern?
Enter known letters in position and use _ for blanks. C_T returns CAT, COT and CUT — every three-letter word starting with C and ending in T.
Can I search by clue instead of letters?
No. This matches on letter pattern and length, not on clue meaning.
How do I exclude a letter?
Add it to the excluded letters field and it will not appear in any blank square of the results.
Does the pattern have to be the full answer length?
Yes. Every square counts, so a seven-letter answer needs seven characters in the pattern.
